Harvest Box Program

2024 Harvest Box sign ups now welcome! Read on for all the details.

Our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Harvest Box Program is a prepaid subscription program for farm produce. CSA members sign up in the spring and pay in advance for a weekly box, or share of produce, delivered each week over the course of the 15-week harvesting season.

As a member of our CSA program, you’ll receive a weekly share of fresh high-quality organic produce grown locally at Rootdown Organic Farm in the Pemberton Meadows. You’ll know where your food comes from, and take in the best of seasonal eating!

CSA members pick up their produce once a week, either Tuesday afternoons in Whistler, or Wednesday afternoons in Pemberton.

Read on for more details including sign up information.

Key Features

Below are some key features of our Harvest Box program that we know you’ll love:

  • Choice - you choose from a completely customizable weekly box, or a more traditional farmer’s choice box with the option of adding on items each week.

  • Good value for your dollar - we’re committed to keeping our members well fed, and once they are set, our prices won’t increase throughout the season.

  • **Returning! Vacation holds - you may put your harvest box account on hold up to 5 weeks throughout the 15 week season, so long as you do so by the weekly deadline.

  • Certified organic - certified through PACS, which means high quality produce grown with the health of you, the planet, and the future in mind.

  • Local, seasonal eating - it really does taste better this way!

  • Convenient pick up locations - serving both Pemberton and Whistler.

  • Reliability - Rootdown was established in 2009, and has been feeding the local community through a harvest box program since the beginning

Your greens defy description. They are the best on the planet Earth. Seriously... thank you. We eat them every meal.

You may ask - what exactly is Community Supported Agriculture?

Farmers benefit from financial support early in the season, while CSA members benefit by receiving a reliable, consistent weekly share of fresh, locally grown, seasonal vegetables.

Harvest Box Options

Rootdown Farm offers two types of Harvest Boxes - the Traditional Box, or the fully customizable Build Your Own Box. Please read on for more details on these different options.

Before you sign up. For details about our policies, payment methods, ordering deadlines, vacation hold policy, and more, please read our Harvest Box Policies below. Please note, this is not “suggested reading” but required as it explains important information about how our program works. This applies to new and returning members, as some policies may have changed since past seasons.

Upon sign up it is assumed you have read and understand our Harvest Box Policies.

Traditional Box

$547.50 + $10 Admin Fee = $557.50 for the 15 week Harvest Box Season. Sign up and pay in full by March 1st to receive a $10 Early Bird Bonus credit!

Offers the best value. Our Traditional Harvest Box is for fresh food lovers who aren’t picky about the specific veggies (or who just love all veggies), and want to have the farmer determine the box’s contents. This option delivers the best the farm has to offer each week, providing a great selection of produce, and the best value. It’s seasonal eating at it’s finest!

The 15-week program includes a farmer chosen selection of fresh produce valued at $36.50 per week (or just over $5/day!). The boxes are often valued at a higher price, depending on the time of year, and over the course of the season Traditional Box members receive around 10% more value than they pay for. Rootdown is committed to members receiving great value for their dollar.

Traditional Boxes receive a bag of Rootdown Farm’s signature salad mix every week, and will also include a selection of staple and seasonal veggies when in season, such as carrots, beets, radish, salad turnips, potatoes, head lettuce, broccoli, kale, chard, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, zucchini, leeks, winter squash, peas, beans, fresh herbs, green onions, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and more!

Please note - as a Traditional Box member, you can’t remove items from your box, but you can access our online store during store hours (see our policy page for this) to add additional items, which are delivered with your weekly box.

The add-on option is one of my favourite things about Rootdown’s Harvest Box. If we’re planning a dinner with friends and need some extra cherry tomatoes, squash, or potatoes, we’re covered

Build Your Own Box

$570 + $10 Admin Fee = $580 for the 15 week Harvest Box Season. Sign up and pay in full by March 1st for a $10 Early Bird Bonus credit!

Offers the most choice. This box allows members to choose exactly the items they want. You build your own box each week, selecting the items from our online store. So if you are a veggie lover who wants a more flexible way to eat local (love carrots, kale, and salad mix, but never want to receive onions or broccoli?), then this option is for you! Please note that if you do not customize your box in a given week, you will still receive a Suggested Box chosen by your farmers!

The weekly minimum is $25/week, and the season-long commitment is $570 (or $38/week if you order each week). Once you pay, your account gets “credited”. Weekly orders are then deducted from your available credit. Unused credit does not carry over to the following year, and must be used up by the season’s end. There is often the option to purchase early or late season vegetables outside of the regular 15 week season, and your credit can be used for these.

If you are a big veggie eater or have a veggie-lovin’ family, and spend more than $570 during the season, no problem! We simply debit your account each week, and settle up any payment owing at the end of the Harvest Box season.

Please note that it is your responsibility to use up all your credit for the season, even if you miss some weeks allowed with our Vacation Hold option. Credit cannot be carried over to the next season, and so if you miss some weeks, you will have to place larger orders in others, or take advantage of our early and late season boxes (if available) to ensure you use up all your credit.

Season-long add-ons

Salad Mix Add-On. $6.25/week. You may choose to add one extra bag of salad mix per week for the entire 15 week season. Please note that the Traditional Box already receives a bag of salad mix each week.

Farm Fresh Eggs Add-On. $9.00/week. You may choose to add one dozen eggs from certified organic Spray Creek Ranch in Lillooet, BC for the entire 15-week season. **Limited availability! These sell out fast!

As a thank you for your early season commitment, if you sign up and pay in full by March 1st, you will receive a $10 credit to use at our online store.

Refer-a-Friend Bonus Credit

**Returning for 2024**

As a thank you for helping us spread the word, every time you refer a friend to our Harvest Box Program and they sign up, you’ll receive a $10 credit for use at our online farm store.

If you refer someone to our Harvest Box Program, just have them mention your name on the sign-up form, and we’ll credit your account with $10. You must be a registered member to receive these referral credits.

More of your friends (or family, or coworkers) joining our Harvest Box Program, means more bonus credit for you!

What People Are Saying

“I love picking up my Rootdown Harvest Box every week from June to October.  I cannot believe the taste, variety, size and quality of the vegetables they grow.  They are magicians. And its always fun to chat with them on pickup day.  They are warm, informative and hardworking farmers.”

— Pru M., Whistler CSA Member

“Can’t beat the value and quality of the Rootdown CSA! Delicious, fresh, amazing local veggies every week for the entire season! It has changed how we eat and made us happier and healthier! We love Rootdown!”

— Amanda, Whistler CSA Member

“A friend recommended Rootdown to me a few years ago and I have been a dedicated customer ever since. The quality cannot be found in a grocery store and I love that I've been introduced to new (to me) veggies as well (hello hakurei turnip!).  I get excited every year when my weekly basket of veggies becomes available. Eating what is actually in season is so satisfying! I particularly LOVE being able to build my own basket of veggies, so that I don't end up wasting something that I'm not fond of or got too much of. I often end up buying more than the minimum I am required to buy because I can stock up on what suits me. I am fairly incapable of bringing home a full carton of cherry tomatoes, nor the fresh peas when they are in season.  They pretty much get eaten on the 5 minute drive to home. Ariella, Simone and TJ are the nicest veggie purveyors I've ever met and I love my Tuesday afternoon pickup!”

— Mo H., Whistler CSA Member

“I started ordering Rootdown’s harvest box 9 years ago because it is important to me to support local, women-led businesses. I continue to order their harvest boxes because of the incredible quality and taste of the food we receive every week!  The team is also wonderful to interact with each week.”

— Shannon W., Whistler CSA Member

“I am looking forward to another season of your fantastic organic and local products. We had the Build Your Own Box which we really liked as we could order what we wanted and the amount we needed. Having the opportunity to bulk order at the end of the season was also great. Also, love the recipes that you send regularly.”

— Rury N., Whistler CSA Member

Volunteer

Our volunteer days are Wednesday mornings from 8:00 to 12:00. Shifts begin the last week of June and go until the first week of October.

Volunteers are asked to complete 13 shifts throughout the 15-week season. Tasks include transplanting, weeding and harvesting a variety of organic vegetables. It’s a great way to learn about small-scale organic farming, and meet some fun and interesting people.

And, you’ll receive a complementary CSA Harvest Box for the season!
